Biography

No one is ever truly broken, but we often feel incapable of change. Whether you are coping with a difficult experience, your emotions seem out of control, you’re questioning who you are, or anything else, if you find yourself stuck or curious about how change could positively impact your life, now is the time to take the leap.

In therapy I strive to offer clients an open, non-judgmental space to explore their emotions and most difficult experiences. I work alongside my clients to assess where they would like to see change and help them implement those changes through the development of skills and empowering choice from a primarily cognitive behavioral (CBT) approach, with elements of third-wave (such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)) and behavioral therapies (such as Exposure and Response Prevention). While I bring expertise in the evidence-based therapies, my clients are the experts on themselves and their experiences; collaboratively, we work together to tackle the challenges to meet each individual’s unique needs and make positive long-lasting changes.

I received my Bachelors Degree from University of Mary Washington and my Masters Degree from Northern Illinois University (NIU), where I am currently working towards my doctoral degree and am a member of the Consequences of Traumatic Exposure research lab. My clinical research focus is primarily on the development and maintenance of psychological distress following traumatic exposure (e.g., anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder), as well as examining the efficacy and “active ingredients” of psychological interventions designed to treat this distress. Prior to joining OakHeart, I have worked to provide individual therapy to adolescents, families, and adults in the Psychological Services Center at NIU, as well as at AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital in their intensive outpatient/partial hospitalization program for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Anxiety. Most recently, I worked to provide evidence-based, trauma-focused individual therapy for Veterans at the Edward Hines Jr. Veteran Administration Hospital within their Trauma Services Program. I have experience treating:

Trauma/PTSD
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Panic Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder
Health Anxiety/Illness Anxiety Disorder
Specific Phobias
Depression

I believe strongly in growing my knowledge base on effective, evidence-based therapies through engagement in the following professional memberships:

International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS)
Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT)
American Psychological Association (APA)
