Nicole James, MA, LPC
Biography
Life has its challenges; reaching out for help for you or a loved one takes courage. In working with clients, I value an authentic therapeutic relationship. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I am thoroughly invested in each client’s personal development and individual treatment goals. I believe the therapeutic process is based on the ability to collaborate with my clients in a safe atmosphere, where they can express themselves honestly. My hope is that clients can learn to embrace and accept who they are in order to become the best versions of themselves. As your ally, I will meet you where you are on your own journey.
I am also very passionate about promoting and supporting the social and emotional health and well-being of young children and their families. By addressing a child’s mental health needs early on, it can improve the child’s overall well-being and functioning across settings; to help them reach their fullest potential and engage in the world around them. Therapy with children should focus on the whole child and should be personalized to reflect the child’s individual needs, learning style, and beliefs. The goal is to help children identify, explore, and express what they are feeling; utilizing art, play and other evidence-based treatment strategies.
My educational background includes a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University. I have spent time in a private practice working with adults experiencing varying levels of difficulty due to life situations or mental health concerns. For nearly a decade I served in the Early Intervention program as a Service Coordinator. I promoted healthy living and relationships within the family system and the community where they live. I truly believe that early support is so important to the emotional maturity and success of children.
Depending on the individual needs of the client, I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Art and Play Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I consider myself a life-long learner and strive to stay up to date on the most relevant, research-based therapeutic methods.
