Biography
I received my Bachelors Degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, and my Master of Arts in Psychology from Northern Illinois University (NIU), where I am currently pursuing a doctorate in clinical psychology. At NIU, I am a member of the Anxiety and Personality Lab and have conducted research focusing on cognitive aspects of scrupulous OCD (moral- and religious-based obsessions and compulsions).
I have experience providing individual and group therapy at NIU’s Psychological Services Center where I became assistant to the clinic director and at the OCD/Anxiety partial hospitalization program at AMITA Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital. I have worked with clients presenting with the following:
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Panic Disorder
Depression
Anger
Trauma
Relationship Issues
Adjustment Issues
Psychological problems cause significant emotional pain that you do not have to deal with on your own. In therapy, I strive to provide a warm, empathic environment in which clients feel safe to process their difficulties and to make positive, meaningful change. My therapeutic approach is primarily cognitive-behavioral (CBT), focusing more on the behavioral methods of creating change. I also integrate third-wave CBT approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I collaborate with clients and pull from the client’s expertise as well as my own to adapt therapy to the client’s needs.
