Professional Experience
I received my Bachelor of Psychology and Latina/o Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and my Masters in Community Counseling from Loyola University (LUC). While working toward my Masters degree, I completed my internship at a non-profit organization where I worked alongside adolescent girls as they worked toward prioritizing their mental health. During my time there, I conducted mental health assessments, led groups, participated in outreach efforts, and held individual sessions in both English and Spanish. Upon completing my Masters program, I immediately began working in community mental health where I worked with diverse populations facing unique challenges and mental health conditions.
Specializations and Treatment Approach
I currently treat:
Anxiety
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Depression
Trauma
Adjustment/Life Transitions
Relationship Distress
I am a bilingual, Spanish-speaking therapist with a particular interest in working with adolescents, and adults. I take on an approach that is both multicultural and trauma-informed, that, at its core, is client-centered. I pull from various theories and orientations based on your needs with the understanding that not everyone is the same and therefore has unique needs and goals. Some of the approaches I typically turn toward include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused.

About Me
What are your professional and personal values?
Authenticity, open-mindedness, compassion, and humor. I believe that being authentic in everything that we do allows us to walk through life with much more ease. In my experience, doing what I love and enjoy, both personally and professionally, always feels more natural. Maintaining an open-mind is essential for growth and new experiences. I also believe it’s important that we share compassion and humor on our good days with the hopes that others do the same for us on our tough ones. It’s easy to forget to laugh on a hard day even though it always ends up making it better!
What led you to decide that you wanted to be a therapist?
One of my biggest strengths is that I’m a great listener and I learned this about myself pretty early on. Wherever I was, I always found myself curious and invested in other people’s stories with a natural instinct to help, if only by listening. I remember working my first job at a fast-food place while in high school and my co-workers would have this sort of “Ohh, makes sense,” moment when I’d share my goal of becoming a therapist with them.
What are some of your favorite self-care activities?
I am a firm believer of both preventative and reactive self-care. It’s important that we care for our mind and body routinely so that when difficult moments arise, we’re able to work through them. I also think that regardless of how much care we provide ourselves with, some days just need a little bit extra. I consider spending time with friends and family as routine (or preventative) self-care as it always has this grounding effect on me. I also love reading, spending time outdoors, and finding new music to listen to (I like to make a new playlist at least once a month!). On a tough day, I enjoy journaling, mindfulness, and a warm cup of tea.
What’s your favorite quote?
“There is deep wisdom within our very flesh, if we can only come to our senses and feel it.” - Elizabeth A. Behnke
