Biography
Personal challenges are a routine fact of life, but some of these challenges may appear insurmountable or may overwhelm your ability to cope. Therapy is a way to meet these kinds of challenges with professional support, rather than on your own. This flexible tool can provide relief, understanding, growth, motivation, and/or support, depending on your own individual needs and circumstances.
I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology at George Washington University and my master’s degree in clinical psychology at Northern Illinois University (NIU), where I am currently partway through earning my doctoral degree. My research focuses on anxiety and other fear-based psychological disorders. Prior to working at OakHeart, I provided evidenced based posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment at the Hines VA Hospital in Chicago. Additionally, I have experience providing therapy for a myriad of other psychological disorders at the Psychological Services Center at NIU.
Broadly, I strive to provide client-centered, cognitive-behavioral therapy in a positive, nonjudging, and open environment. Where appropriate, I also integrate mindfulness and other Acceptance and Commitment Therapy components into the therapeutic process. I approach therapy with the understanding that, while I may have spent a lot of time in school training to become an expert in psychology (and am still spending time in school), the client is the expert in themselves. In my view, blending these two separate areas of expertise together is the best way to collaboratively approach and overcome life’s most difficult challenges. I am able to offer treatment for late adolescents and adults in the following areas:
Traumatic Stress/PTSD
Anxiety Disorders
Depressive Disorders
Panic Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Adjustment Disorders
Relationship Concerns
I regularly attend and present research at clinical psychology conferences and maintain professional memberships to the following organizations:
American Psychological Association
Association for Psychological Science
International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies
